COMSTOCK UNVEILS FIRST STOCK PHOTO SEARCH SYSTEM OPTIMIZED
SPECIFICALLY FOR MAC'S SHERLOCK
___________________________________________________________________
For the first time, a major photo agency overcomes barriers to
Sherlock functionality - Offers Free Plug-ins.

New York, November 18, 1999:
Comstock, a stock photo industry leader for over 25 years, has
introduced an on-line search mechanism for stock images at
www.comstock.com that has been configured specifically for
compatibility with Apple Macintosh's new OS 8.5-based Sherlock search
system. Heretofore, the rigid keyword-dependant systems of stock
photo agencies have yielded unsatisfactory results when accessed via
Sherlock.
According to Comstock CEO, Henry Scanlon, "Mac users love Sherlock,
but, up until now it hasn't worked for the one thing professional
designers seek most often: stock photos." The reason for this,
according to Scanlon, is that almost all stock agencies' on-line
search systems are entirely keyword-to-image based. "On one level
that's fine, but the Sherlock results are overwhelming, scattered
and unfocused. Try it and you'll see: It simply doesn't work.
With Comstock's system, which looks similar but functions very
differently, it does work-- magically and superbly."

FREE PLUG-INS AVAILABLE AT WWW.COMSTOCK.COM
___________________________________________________________________
Getting started requires a quick download of free Sherlock plug-ins
available at www.comstock.com. "It's amazingly simple," says
Scanlon, "and we provide easy instructions. Sherlock itself is a
snap, and these plug-ins just establish the connection to our site.

"DYNAMIC VISUAL LINKING" MAKES THE DIFFERENCE
___________________________________________________________________
"Dynamic Visual Linking", a search feature that is unique to
www.comstock.com, allows Sherlock to work far better than it does
with any other stock photo website. Says Scanlon: "The entire
photo industry, with the exception of Comstock, has hung its hat on
appending specific 'keywords' to specific images. We use keywords,
too, but only as a launch pad for the process. After that, real
computing power takes over, and the results are spectacular,
especially in the Sherlock environment. Use a keyword with Sherlock
on any other agencies' sites, and what you get back is a tidal wave
of unintelligible photo numbers. Do the same thing with our
plug-ins, and you get a limited number of intuitive category choices
which then take the user directly to relevant images on our site.
It works like a charm."
